Reply Isabel Cambrils on September 20, 2016 at 9:16 pm Hi, I’m new in England, I’m living near Uckfield. I’m looking for some group or society where I can meet people and have conversations. Can anyone help me, please? Thank you very much Reply Delphine Barraclough on October 17, 2016 at 9:47 pm I would like to say a very big thank you to a local Uckfield builder and his family for rescuing a visitor to the town on Friday 30th September 2016. I don’t have the man’s name unfortunately. The visitor was my key note speaker at a Cruse Bereavement conference taking place at the Civic Centre on the Saturday and you saved the day. Thank you to you and your wife for your kindness and openness. Certainly Colin is very grateful. Reply Patricia Heath on January 4, 2017 at 11:41 pm Hello, this is a very long shot, but worth a try. I wonder if there is anything in the town archives, or anyone who knows about this incident from 1941 please. My Uncle, Tommy Howley was in the Royal Artillery and was on manouvers in a wood somewhere in Uckfield. His lorry ran into the back of the lorry in front, as they were driving withought lights in the blackout. I understand the lorry was carrying amunition and guns. I believe he was blown up. This was on the night of April 24th 1941, and he was killed. Thank you Reply Robert Saunders on January 28, 2017 at 3:25 am I posted an entry on your Noticeboard late 2016 looking for any Saunders in Uckfield relating to Arthur who married Ruth Heasman in 1914. I am hoping this note might refresh someone who can help me & they will go back to the board and see my message which carries my e-mail address. many thanks… Robert Saunders.. Melbourne.. Australia. Reply Karl Meyers on September 9, 2017 at 3:30 pm I have traced my ancestors the “Miles” through The Weald – People and history back to the year 1585 where one Richard Miles Married a lady named Joan(ne) 1605. The family children were baptised and buried at the Holy Cross Church, Uckfield. The family remained in the Uckfield area until 1703 or there about’s, before following generations moved to Withyham and then Rotherfield. Despite researching for some 18 months months I have not been able to to discover anything about the family Miles from Uckfield. Much has been written about Uckfield, but little about the type of employment that would be open to those residing in Uckfield during this period. Can anyone assist with any information about the family “Miles” where they could have lived or their work. There were many children so one would assume that some form of work would be available to them, having stayed in the area for approximately 100 hundred years. Reply Rhiannon on December 14, 2018 at 12:49 pm Hi All! I just wanted to pop on and let everyone know that my company Discover & Be offer private academic and music tuition in the local area. We are not the usual tutor company as we focus on creative and fun learning geared towards each child rather than just a mirror of what they get at schools. We work from Newick but often come into Uckfield and love our local area. Do let us know if anyone has any questions. Happy Christmas!
