Re Dendy’s shop..
We have a couple of books about old Uckfield, and Dendy’s is in it, with pictures, established 1686, grocer, tea dealer, draper and clothier,, also undertaker,,funerals, the building was called “manchester house” and is on the main”upper” high street above the turning for Church street, in 1922 the grocery side of business was sold to Mr, Wilde [who was the manager] who then bought the whole business. Then taken over by Cullens [no date tho]
There is another photo ,of a shop on the corner of church street,, “the central clothing stores, W,Dendy. Hope this is of some use…if I can help more , in any way , post a message on here.
Regards Valerie , originally from Uckfield [now in Latvia].
